Journey Thru Peru
This site/blog is dedicated to motorcycle journey that my friend Claudio and I will be taking through Peru over the next month. The journey starts (on March 21st) and ends (on April 20th) in Cusco. We will be riding through the mountains and along the coast of Peru.
The precise route will be determined as we make our way, but generally speaking, the plan is to make our way north from Cusco through the Andes; return south along the coast; then south and east into the mountains and back to Cusco. Along the way we expect to stay in hotels/hostels much of the time, but we will camp out as frequently as circumstances will allow.
I will do my best to keep this site updated as we make our way with a combination of writings, photo’s and video’s. If you are interested in following the journey, add your email address to the distribution list (bottom of the page) and you’ll be notified whenever I post an update.
The maps above will give you a rough idea of our planned itinerary. The first map shows the area we intend to cover in its entirety. The subsequent maps are enlargement of the southern, middle and northern portions of the main map. The red lines represent the main route and the other colors are alternatives we ‘could’ take.
- PostscriptFirst… Claudio and I want to thank all of you reading this for your comments and for following along on our journey. We truly appreciated your interest and support. Second, a few facts/figures from the trip you might find interesting…
- Day 26 (4/18)Today was the ‘actual’ final day of our journey. We started the day in the non-descript town of Cusipata, which is on the main road 51 miles south of Cusco. Given the distance, and the fact that we would be traveling on a main highway, we expected to arrive in Cusco around noon. Little didContinue reading “Day 26 (4/18)”
- Day 25 (4/17)Today was the effectively the final day or our ride. I say ‘effectively’, as officially, we have one more day of riding tomorrow, but it will simple be a 2.5-3 hour run on the main road north to Cusco. As last days go, this was one to remember. In many ways it was a culminationContinue reading “Day 25 (4/17)”
- Day 24 (4/17)‘Rolled up Pancakes’… what better way to start the day. When I was growing up one of the featured breakfasts on Saturday mornings that my dad would prepare was ‘Rolled up Pancakes’. A stack of thin pancakes served with strawberry jam and powdered sugar and bacon on the side. At ‘Casa de Felix’ this morningContinue reading “Day 24 (4/17)”
- Day 23 (4/16)Today was our day for lakes. Mid-day we took time to detour around a series of small lakes aptly named Laguna Lagunillas (literally, ‘lake little lakes’) and by the end of the day we’d found ourselves at an incredibly beautiful albergue (guest house) on the shore of a very big lake…Lake Titicaca.
