Third, here are a couple of quotes from book I’m reading ”Turn Right at Machu Picchu” that I thought I’d share.
From the author… Mark Adams
The view seemed to take in all of creation… mountains and glaciers and rivers and deep green valleys branching off forever to the distant horizon. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
From Rudyard Kipling
Something hidden. Go and find it.
Go and look behind the Ranges—
Something lost behind the Ranges
Lost and waiting for you. Go.
Last, here’s a map that shows each of our daily routes for the 26 days we were riding (i.e. not including 4 rest days).

That’ll just have to do because it’s as good as it gets…..

Fred, I enjoyed your entries so much. I looked forward to the next addition every morning. Rody and I talked about your adventure many times. I’m so glad you took the time to take pictures and write a journal entry. I’m sure sometimes you just wanted to go, go, go, but years from now you will look at the pictures and read your journal and be so happy you documented everything so well. Great work!

Dave… apology for the belated reply… “Thank You!” for your comments and for following along… very much appreciated.
Yes, I look forward to reviewing in years to come. Have to confess that as much as I wanted to share with others, part of my motivation was just that… to capture for my own (and Claudio’s future reference). We took a trip together 10 years prior to Argentina and Chile during which I kept a similar journal and the resulting book of photo’s and recollections is invaluable. All the best to you. Perhaps next time I’m back in Sewickley we can get out together for an off road ride.
On a separate note… see from your Instagram that you get out on occasion with Ron Bohn…. if you see him again anytime soon, tell him John Benz says ‘Hello’…. that’s my older brother, who rode on Ron’s shop team back in the mid-70’s… hope/think that Ron will remember him.

My first thought is, seeing your photos, and reading your great descriptions, “is almost as good as being there.”
Then, on second thought, I realize, no, that isn’t right. Your experience being there was probably way, way beyond, and higher, than the journals. Maybe indescribable, I imagine.

not having seen your prior journey but perusing this one I can only say it is a life-changing exceedingly positive and well written, wonderfully photography and excellent reporting that enthralled me. Particularly the Relive direction drawings along with food descriptions and images of places and people……wonderful!

Fred (and Claudio), thank you for creating and sharing this wonderful ride report. I’ve made a few of my own, albeit nothing in comparison to this one, and can attest to the value of the ability to review and relive the trip at a later date. Extremely well done and thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ¡Buen viajes
